An Invitation

This site is more than just an author newsletter sharing an inside look into my upcoming novel. What I love the most, what I would much rather be doing any day of the week than promoting a book, is immersing myself in the craft of writing and connecting with other writers. This is what we as writers can control: the words we set down on the page—and how we come to discover them. So with that in mind, I'm starting something special here at The Words Around Us for writers of any genre, form, or age level.

Premium Content for Writers

A Writer Membership is a paid premium subscription that will give you access to bonus creative content. You will get the monthly post that every reader gets, and you will also have access to more:

  1. A new writing prompt on the first of every month and opportunities to discuss and share your experience in the comments
  2. A craft-focused monthly post focused on topics like writing process, creativity, or the writing life
  3. The occasional personal post in which I'll open a window into my own writing practice and share the process of writing a novel for adults for the first time in many years (as well as my other projects)
  4. Opportunities to enter signed book giveaways exclusive only to premium members
  5. And perhaps best of all, a special invitation to a seasonal prompt-writing hour live in Zoom... a generative writing opportunity only for premium subscribers

Prompt Hours

I'll be hosting the next prompt-writing hour on Sunday, January 26 starting at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.

This will be a generative hands-on opportunity live in Zoom, in which I'll offer you prompts, and you'll write on the spot... You will never be forced to share or keep your camera on, but I'll encourage participation in the comments and there will be time to hear on video from some volunteers.

These sessions will not be recorded, in order to allow us all to be in the moment and access a creative, even vulnerable place.

My plan is to host prompt hours once every season—fall 2024, winter 2025, spring 2025, and summer 2025—and premium subscribers have an invite to each one.

You will need to have a current membership in order to attend the prompt hour.

Alternative way to pay: If you'd like to attend but don't have a credit card or would prefer to pay in Venmo, just Venmo @NovaRenSuma $5 and include your email address in the payment note. You will get a month-long email subscription to THE WORDS AROUND US for January 2025, and an invite to the January 26 workshop.

Register for the Winter 2025 Prompt Hour
The prompt hour is a generative writing workshop hosted by me, Nova Ren Suma, exclusively for those signed up for a Writer Membership on newsletter.novaren.com. The Winter 2025 Prompt Hour will take place live in Zoom on: Sunday, January 26, starting at 8:30pm Eastern It will likely be an hour and fifteen minutes, but please forgive me for using a more succinct title! This is a pressure-free generative workshop and a creative space to write together. If you’ve taken generative workshops with me previously, the prompts will be ones I haven’t shared in classes before. If you want to attend, just have an active Writer Membership on my newsletter by January 26, and you’ll have a free invite. How to Join

How Many Emails Is This??

Those signed up for a Writer Membership will get three emails a month:

  • A writing prompt on the first of the month
  • A craft-focused post at some point during the month (the date will vary)
  • The monthly newsletter post sent out on the full moon (open to all subscribers)

You can always access the premium posts as well as all the archives on this site by logging in. You don't need a password for this site–when you sign in, a magic link will be emailed to you.
